Literacy Advocates Partnered with Toe by Toe!

I'm Helen Roussel. Thirteen years ago, my seven-year-old fell apart because he feared he was incapable of learning. He struggled to read, and the evaluator the school brought in, did not even test his literacy levels. School had become a nightmare for him.
I took him to the UK to see a psychologist at a public school (I’m originally from there). The school psychologist diagnosed him with dyslexia and told me it’s customary to provide parents with the Toe by Toe book. He advised working with Toe by Toe for five minutes a day. So I did. I started at 5-minutes and built it up. My son quickly began to pick up reading skills and his anxiety started to decrease, while I started to understand about phonological awareness and phonics. This made it easier to advocate for him, as I now had some knowledge and experience regarding my son’s specific reading skill weaknesses. Then, I brought the book in to the school district to show the teachers what structured literacy looks like, and advocated for teacher training...... that's how this all started.

The book was called "Toe by Toe" because learning to read for our children is not just a step; it’s a small toe.

This workbook is designed for parents and guardians to use with struggling readers. It requires only 5-20 minutes per day, and helps emerging readers develop and practice all the essential foundational skills. Additionally, it enables parents and caregivers to identify and better understand the areas of reading skill weakness, and build those skills.

RAPIDLY IMPROVE READING SKILLS IN JUST 20 MINUTES A DAY

It doesn’t matter if you are aged 7 or 70, Toe By Toe can improve any struggling reader’s reading age by years, in just a few weeks or months of studying. This can typically be achieved with just 20 minutes a day.
Toe By Toe is essentially a decoding book. It trains struggling readers to identify written text, easily and quickly. This enables them to convert letters and words into the appropriate sounds so they speak and pronounce them correctly every time.
The beauty of Toe By Toe is that it can be studied at home. Almost anyone can teach it. You don’t need to be a qualified teacher. A parent. A family member or friend. Even a sibling. Almost anyone could be a mentor, teaching struggling readers how to read. All exercises are easily followed and everything is clearly explained.
Toe by Toe changes lives.
